About the Cultural Gardens

Welcome to a unique American landscape of the twentieth century: The Cleveland Cultural Gardens. This site is a virtual monument to that living, organic landscape. Like the Gardens, this website is largely a community endeavor and a living entity, undergoing change over time. Initially created by students and scholars at Cleveland State University, the project has grown to include social studies teachers from throughout the region, as well as members of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation. We strive to apply the best principles of social history and the latest thinking in the digital humanities, while seeking to give voice to the many communities that make up the gardens.

The site is currently maintained by the Center for Public History and Digital Humanities at the Cleveland State University Department of History, in partnership with the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation, with support from the Arizona State University Department of History.
