1. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

a. Information You Provide Directly

• Name, email address, phone number
• Business or listing details (business name, description, address, pricing, photos, events, experiences, items for sale)
• Account login credentials
• Messages or communications sent through the platform

b. Information Collected Automatically

• IP address and general location (such as city or ZIP code)
• Device type, browser type, and operating system
• Pages viewed and interactions with the site
• Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 6)

c. Third-Party Services

We may receive limited information from third-party services used to operate TownVue, such as hosting providers, analytics tools, payment processors, image hosting, and customer relationship management systems.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Create and manage user accounts
• Display listings, events, experiences, and items for sale
• Enable search, filtering, and local discovery
• Communicate with you about your account or listings
• Process payments and subscriptions
• Improve site performance, usability, and features
• Prevent fraud, abuse, or misuse of the platform
• Comply with legal and regulatory obligations

TownVue does not manipulate listings with hidden algorithms or sell preferential placement.

3. How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information only in the following cases:

• With service providers that help operate the platform (hosting, analytics, payments, communications)
• When required by law, legal process, or government request
• To protect the rights, safety, or security of TownVue, its users, or the public
• With your consent or at your direction

Public listings you create (such as business listings, events, or items for sale) are visible to other users by design.

Ask Your Town

When you use Ask Your Town, TownVue handles some information in addition to what this policy already describes.

What we collect

• Requests: what you need, your town, the timeframe, any photos or PDFs you attach, and any contact details you choose to give for that request.
• Replies and messages: what businesses and neighbors write to each other, quotes, and files attached to replies.
• What happens next: who you say you hired, and your optional answer to "What made you choose them?"

Who sees it

• Businesses your request is sent to see the request text, your town, its attachments, and the name you choose to show: your first name and last initial, your public name, or "A neighbor". Businesses that have not claimed their listing receive it by email.
• A business sees your email and phone only if you choose to share your contact with that business, or if you include them in your request.
• Businesses that replied but were not chosen may receive a short, anonymous summary of what made the difference. It never includes your name or your words as written.
• If you invite a business that is not on TownVue, we email your request to the address you give, once.
• Attachments are private: only you, the businesses your request reached, and TownVue staff can open them. Location data is removed from photos when they are uploaded.

AI

TownVue uses AI service providers, currently OpenAI, to process the text of requests and replies: to sort a request into a category, screen it, suggest questions, match it with businesses, suggest clearer wording for a reply, and summarize feedback. These providers process the text on our behalf and do not use it to train their models under our agreement with them.

How long we keep it

Attachments are deleted 90 days after a request closes. The text of a request and its replies is kept for the hire record and feedback until you delete your account.

4. Your Choices and Controls

You may:

• Update or correct your account information
• Remove or deactivate listings
• Cancel subscriptions at any time
• Request deletion of your account by contacting us

Some information may be retained for legal, security, or operational reasons.

5. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. While no system is 100% secure, we strive to safeguard your data against unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

TownVue uses cookies and similar technologies to:

• Remember preferences
• Analyze site traffic and performance
• Improve user experience

You may control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Some features may not function properly if cookies are disabled.

7. Children's Privacy

TownVue is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Third-Party Links

TownVue may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of TownVue after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
