Cretia Cakes Bake Shop
About
Growing up with Southern parents in Indianapolis, LaCretia discovered her passion for baking early – mixing the soulful flavors of her family's heritage with the warmth of Midwest hospitality. She lovingly calls herself "a Northern City Girl grounded by her Southern roots," and every bite of her creations tells a story of tradition, family, and love.
Her journey began on the West Side of Indianapolis, near the roar of the Indianapolis 500, where young LaCretia first won hearts (and earned the nickname "Ms. Betty Crocker") selling treats at All Saints Catholic School. That first custom cake she crafted in fifth grade? It sparked a flame that would shape her entire future.
Life took an interesting turn after college. Despite earning an Accounting degree, LaCretia couldn't ignore the whispers of her true calling. Following her heart, she enrolled in Ivy Tech's Culinary Program, specializing in Baking and Pastry Arts. Under the guidance of talented mentors like Paul Vida and Linda Shonk, she blossomed from Junior Chef to Professional Chef in the American Culinary Federation.
Honing her craft at Just Desserts and Panera Bread, and learning the finer points of Southern baking from Marsha Brooks of Ms. Sweet B's, LaCretia dreamed bigger. In 2006, that dream became reality when she and her husband Angelo ("The Baker's Man") opened Cretia Cakes near the Indianapolis Speedway. Together, they've created a sweet spot where custom creations meet Southern comfort – from elaborate wedding cakes to melt-in-your-mouth pecan pies, red velvet cakes, and their famous butter pecan cake.
