In 2014, out of an old mason garage in Columbus, Ohio, Lauren Culley and Jeff Excell opened a bakery and coffee shop selling made from scratch pastries that fully represented the Heartland - big, bready cinnamon rolls, sticky buns covered in toasted pecans, buttermilk biscuits with slow-cooked, fresh fruit jams.
