Hyde Park Hair Salon & Barber

Founded in 1927 by entrepreneur Joe Taylor, Hyde Park Hair Salon — originally known as Joe’s Barbershop — began as a modest entrance to the Hyde Park Theatre. It quickly became a beloved local institution — a place of style, culture, and connection.

Over the decades, Joe’s Barbershop changed hands, and in 1965 officially adopted the name Hyde Park Hair Salon. When the Hyde Park Theatre building was sold to the University of Chicago in 2007, the salon relocated just down the street — proudly continuing its legacy from a new corner.

Today, Hyde Park Hair Salon remains a pillar of the community — cutting hair and making history, one client at a time.
