About
The Luzerne County Historical Society is the oldest county historical society in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, continuing to pursue its mission through exhibits, events, lectures, and tours at its museum, library, and historic houses, as well as by stewarding its comprehensive local history collection of objects and documents. We are proud to serve as the premier historical society in Luzerne County. Founded in 1858, LCHS preserves and promotes the collective history and heritage of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Sites include: the Museum and Bishop Library & Archives in Wilkes-Barre; the Denison House in Forty Fort; and the Swetland Homestead in Wyoming. Services include: Museum Exhibitions & Collections, Research Services, Membership, Volunteer Opportunities, Artifact Donations, Scholarships, Events & Lectures, and an Online Store.
