Arts, Culture & Entertainment
About

In 2011, the Morgantown History Museum became the first city-sponsored museum in the county with a mission to collect, record, and preserve artifacts and information related to Monongalia County throughout its history and to share it with museum visitors. The current collection contains artifacts from prehistory to the present. The exhibition floor follows a timeline of permanent and rotating exhibits that feature historical events, individuals, and achievements. Permanent exhibits feature Don Knotts, a vintage printing shop, local glassware, pottery, musicians, and more.

Admission to the museum is free. Group tours are available upon request.

The museum is located in the annex of a former Morgantown Post Office located at 175 Kirk Street. Completed in 1931, the annex was a necessary expansion to the post office building that was completed in 1914. The post office and annex served the community until the 1970s, when a new post office was built nearby. Both the former post office and annex were placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 28, 1979.
