Our founder, Hironori Otsuka, created Wado-Ryu in the early 1900’s. He was a Master of Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu and learned Okinawan Karate from Master Gichin Funakoshi. With both influences, he blended the styles into what is known today as Wado-Ryu Karate, a style that focuses on more than just striking but also body shifting, joint-locking, and throwing.
